Do you really need special training to lay Amtico Tile Flooring
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.18 PM
I've bought Amtico flooring for my bathroom and have been told it is difficult to lay and training is needed by the company. Is that right? Fitters who've been here to quote say it's fairly straight forward but the last bathroom I had done the fitter called in a "specialist" to lay it . It's just a straight forward tile with a track used to mimic a grout line so no fancy pattern or faffing . I'm pretty confused about all this and it's holding up my bathroom even more. Thanks

Hi Alan,
My name is Enrico, i have a little experience about Amtico, Altro, and Karnden vinyl flooring,as i worked for a company many years ago, specialised in these floor covering.
Yes, i am afraid, it is a specialist area, especially when we talking about Amtico tiles and planks, as the material is quite hard and difficult to cut around the perimeter of the room being covered ( the stanley knife could slip and you would cut your arm open...) also, the subfloor need to be levelled with special latex levelling compound and additive if it’s a concrete base, or marine ply if the subfloor is wooden base. A right water based adhesive must then be spread very thinly and left to be “ tacky” just enough to grip the vinyl planks or tiles... ( too early and the Vinyl material will slip all over the place with overflowing water base adhesive making a right mess... too late and the Amtico or Karnden tiles will never stick...)... so, unless you have done this before... as Amtico is very expensive to play about... i would leave it to professionals. Just a thought...

LVT's are specialised work and require training and experience to prep and install correctly, obviously for those of us that have been installing them for years your job is probably straight forward but I would advise against even thinking about installing it yourself, it will be a very costly mistake.
