Can the carpet be removed store and reuse after refurbishment ?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.18 PM

My existing bedroom floor is the original Victorian floorboard. I would like to carpet it over. However I am planning for a refurbishment work in 2 years includes create an opening to next bedroom, remove existing wall lining paper , replaster, wiring and paint. I am hesitating to lay new carpet now due to amount of dusty works in two years. However if I lay new carpet now, would I be able to remove the carpet during the refurbishment work and relay the carpet later? How to treat the threshold of new opening if reuse existing carpet? Will it be better to protect the carpet during the works ? Thanks

It is possible to uplift and roll the carpet then to have it reinstalled afterwards but you will lose any warranties, I would advise waiting until the works are complete before installing a new carpet.

No problem at all. Uplift the carpet and underlay and then roll (not fold or crease) both up separately nice and tightly. Apply some sticky taping to make sure they don't unravel, wrap in polythene or something waterproof and store somewhere away from where the work is being done.
