I have a very uneven wall that needs rendering can I use building sand as a scratch coat just to dub out the uneven parts then use sharp sand for the final finish coat ?

hi, I would not use building sand to scratch coat the wall as it can be brittle and shrink and crack causing the top coat to crack with it
I would use plastering sand and mix lime with it so it has a little give in it . then use a mix of washed sand and fine sharp sand for the top coat using waterproofer in it to stop moisture getting through

Hi I would not use sand cement at all, there are so many better products on the market for render now, using sand cement is nearly 100 years old, it’s not flexible and liable to crack. Renders like Weber OCR or Krend Hp12 are highly flexible cement polymers that have excellent bond properties, can be applied in one coat, and are no longer very expensive.
