Do I need new fuse box for moving electricity meter?

We need our electricity meter from inside to out due to building work. National grid have been out and said we need an electrician to connect the new meter to our fuse box. Our fuse box is about four years old. Will we need to update to the new metal boxes in order to get this work done?
