More noise after new windows fitted

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.39 PM

Hi, 2 weeks ago I got all new windows fitted in my home, I opted for triple glazing in the bedroom as I live on a main road which occasionally would be noisy. Now its constantly noisy, I can hear everything from outside its like it is now amplified. I've spend a lot of money on this and the fitters have been back and filled in some 'gaps' they said would help, but it hasn't, they are now saying that my walls are not insulated and this is the cause of the noise getting through. I do not believe the noise should be worse than before??? At most the same, but not worse. Can any one advise why this could be happening and what the fitters should do to help resolve? There are no trickle vents in the windows.

It might seem stupid but have they foamed the frames down the side plus the head of the window before sealing them, that may be the reason, because if they have trimmed then sealed the windows it’s just a hollow gap between trim an inside reveal to the wall, hope this helps pal. 👍🏻

Have you got night vents in the new Windows? If so are they closing properly?, some cheaper makes of window profiles (the outer frame) are just hollow box section, better quality profiles are of a honycombe construction with reinforcing in, makes quite a difference.

Yes I VISITED A customer who had triple glazed units, but found the noise levels were higher than before, after a thorough check,it was indeed the trickle vents, because they were constantly open, the noise was horrendous,I changed his vents to closeable ones internally,So at night he could close out the noise.hope this helps

Triple glazing has minimal effect on noise reduction but should be no worse than ordinary double glazing. There is a way to reduce noise better through double glazing. If you don't have trickle vents then it may be that the sealing gasket corners are sticking out so proud that they are stepping the seals away from the frame. Or that gaps around the outer frames have not been suitably filled and hence road noise bypasses the whole installation. Paul. Bahama
