Semi circle of bricks at the top of steps leading to a patio
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.41 PM
Hi, I requested a semi-circle of brickwork to be created at the top of two steps from the back of my property leading onto a patio. When the individual had completed it apart from the fact that it looked awful it was over 2 inches higher than the patio. Is this correct? as surely it is a trip hazard? Is there any laws that covers this? or industry standards? Thanking you in advance for your replies. Sam

If it was a new build it could be covers under part m building regs which basically means having level access at door thresholds. Unfortunately that’s as far as it goes your work is cosmetic and a landscaping project which has no influence from building control, so sorry but best thing to do is rip it up and start again 😩

If you are saying that the height difference is just 2 inches then yes this is a tripping point and cannot be classed as a step. The levels should always be set out before you start so you finish with correct heights

If its newly laid, just take them apart as you still can, otherwise, you'll be charged more to take them apart.
It is a trip Hazard and you cannot have that.
