Smell from sink when washing dishes

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

I have a smell when I start washing. There is no smell at all when I don t use tap. Is something wrong with plumbing? There is no stack vent pipe connection apart of that silentrap from alpine if that works. I have photos but can t add them in question.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

My first thought is clean the trap out. It is a simple job that won't take 5 mins. Assuming you have already done this then I will bet that the sink waste itself is to blame. You will need to disconnect the trap and then take the waste off the sink, over time food gets under there and what you are smelling is coming from under the rim if the waste. Give it a good clean and re-fit then it will be fine.

Hi. Assuming you have one... does your washing machine outlet attach to the sink waste somewhere before the water trap... "p" trap etc? If so, does the gray flexible outlet from the washing machine bend upward or downward? If down then my guess would be the smell is coming from the washing machine. Without looking it's a guess but something that can happen. Plumbbob.
