Pizza Oven base - how much cement:sand for laying concrete blocks

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

I'm currently building a DIY pizza oven and am at the stage where I need to build the stand. I'm planning on doing an open rectangle (two long sides and one short) out of concrete block. The short side will be 2 blocks wide, the long sides will be 3 blocks long, and it will be four blocks high. How much cement and sand will I need and what ratio do you recommend? It will need to support a brick pizza oven on top. Thanks so much in advance for all your help, Victoria

Hi there, I would recommend you use 5:1 mix 5 shovels of sand 1 shovel of cement Depends if your mixing it up in a wheel barrow or cement mixer, your may need to double it if so. Also don’t forget to add a splash of plasticiser in the mix with the water. Hope this helps Ashley

Personally I would use a 4:1 mix ratio 4 - sand 1 - cement Whatever you use to gauge the ratio ensure they are all the same, I like to use buckets so that you know your mix will be the same everytime. Hope this helps Brad
