TORCH ON FELT INFORMATION

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

I understand for a Torch On Felt roof to be done correctly it requires 3 LAYERS. Could you please advise: What those individual layers should be? Are there different qualities of felt and how do I ensure my roofing contractor uses the best materials? Thanks Paul

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The three layer should be two underlay layers and the third layer would be a cap sheet , the underlay and cap sheet are different felts and different thicknesses, I would recommend tecnatorch sbs if applying with a torch as it is a very good product for both underlay and cap sheet

A three layer felt system should consist of a tacked down layer using 3b felt, followed by a 2mm thick torch on felt and then finished with either a plain 4mm or mineral 4mm torch on felt. If you are paying any less than £30 per roll for your felt the chances are it will not be the best quality.

The answer to your question is that each layer has a broken bond so if water seeps though one lap for what ever reason it is to track across to the next lap to find another weak point so the more broken layers the less chance of a leak the same applys to Upstands against a wall min 150.
