Repointing mortar
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM
About five years ago a handyman repointed some of my bricks using B and Q u-can concrete repair mix. He only stopped when he found it was setting too quickly. I don’t think it has done any harm, and I don’t think he raked out very deeply, but it has occurred to me that if I ever needed to replace any of the bricks in question the surrounding bricks might get damaged. Would a grinder get the stuff off cleanly? I’m a bit concerned about it and would be grateful for any thoughts and advice. Thank you.

A grinder may well do the job for you. However if your concerned about damaging the surrounding brickwork the safest method is to 'pepper drill' (a term used to describe drilling lots of holes) the surrounding mortar to loosen the brick(s) in question then remove them. Takes a bit longer but less chance of damaging the bricks
Hope this helps
