Air vents after fireplace removal
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM
I have had a fireplace capped off and removed, obviously now there is abit if a hole in the wall where it sat in. I think it's precast. I'm not going to put another one in I am boarding it up but do I need to fit an air vent in there too? Seem to have in my head that I do & can't just board it & plaster over it. Thanks

It is always advisable if you are removing a fireplace to fit a vent at the bottom of the chimney and fit a chimney cowl on top of the chimney pot. This will let air flow through the chimney to stop damp. If you are a detached house and the chimney is on the outside wall you can fit the vent on the outside, this will stop any draught coming in to the room. I hope this help you Thanks Stephen.

any unused chimney should be capped at roof level & vented at both end to allow air circulation and prevent dampens.
good luck Alex
