Made a mistake didn't add a mist coat to new plaster
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM
We have just had a renovation done and had the whole house plastered it has been drying for about 2 weeks now but we foolishly didn't add a mist coat to the kitchen before we put our first coat on. We have now realised is there anything we can do now to help the situation without having to sand it down cause I don't want to make a hash of the new plaster. Could we add a mist coat now or is it too late? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi you may well get away with it for a while if you used a decent quality paint if not you may start to see some peeling pretty soon.

Hi. Bad news im afraid. Mist coating is a preperation coat before any painting.
Depending on what paint you have used, you may find it will peel off.
The new plaster will have sucked all the water from the paint as you applied it, coupled to the dust that sits on dried plaster, your paint will not be adhered so will probably peel off
