Bathroom Fitting

New bathroom fitted but no hot water in shower

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

We have recently paid for a full bathroom renovation in my elderly mother's house and have encountered a significant issue. As part of the renovation the Bathroom fitter installed a shower over the bath which includes a central 'tap' (I think they are called ‘lever bar’). This has one dial to turn the shower on and another to regulate the temperature. The hot water (and the shower) are supplied by a combi boiler. On completion the fitter showed my mum how to work the shower; however, the following day my mum was unable to get hot water from the shower. I initially put this down to her not following the instructions and rang the fitter to confirm if she was not doing something obvious. He advised it was fine when he tested this but it did take a while to heat up. I went to the property but also could not get the water hot. All other hot taps are providing hot water, but the pressure in the sink is a bit poor. After playing around with the temperature control (including using the red plastic slider) the water did begin to get warm. I couldn’t tell you how I did this and we just put it down us needing to play around with it and get used to the controls. That was 3 weeks ago and since this time we have had no hot water in the shower. I have tried many times to contact the original fitter but he is no longer answering my calls or messages. I have no understanding of plumbing and have done some reading online about potential issues with the mixing valves, the thermostat or the boiler but most of these seem to relate to issues where things have failed due to wear and tear. However, this shouldn’t be an issue in this case. I would obviously prefer if I could get the bathroom fitter to come back, and realise I may have to pay another plumber to come out and take a look. But any ideas or help you have in the meantime would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Maybe need to be readjustment the thermostat valve, or maybe some dust in the mixer.

There could be dirt in the mixer valve. I have been to a few of these with this problem. Isolate the hot water and remover the mixer valve. Both hot and cold side should have a mesh strainer in them, check to see if there is dirt.
