Noisy monobloc mixer tap

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hello. Hope someone might have some advice... I have a monobloc mixer tap in a bathroom basin. Not sure how old it is, but I'd guess maybe 6 or 7 years. When used, there's a really loud sound, a bit like rushing air/wooshing. There's no aerator on the tap. It's so noisy you can hear it downstairs, and there's a bedroom adjoining the bathroom so it's causing a bit of a problem with sleeping. The only time it's quiet is if the toilet next to it has just been flushed or if you turn it on a really small amount. My thoughts so far... - Does the tap just need replacing? - Is the water pressure too high? (we have a combi boiler) - Would a more traditional mixer tap with separate hot and cold knobs be quieter? Happy to invest in a good quality tap if that might fix it. If so, should I look at brands like Grohe, Bristan etc.? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Isolation valves not fully open , also possible a pressure reducing valve required because of high pressure.

Hi this could be caused if there is an isolation valve on the supply pipes to the was hand basin that is only partially open.

It sounds like either excess pressure in which case you need a pressure reducing valve fitted or you have a partially open isolating valve.

Firstly I would be checking to see if you had isolation valves on the supply, if so check to see if there fully open.
