Gas safety certificate with non working gas fire
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
I have a gas fire that is not used and does not work. Can I get a gas safety certificate for the property with the none working fire, or must the fire be disconnected from the gas supply and capped off first. Would checking the none working fire be included in the check.

A gas certificate check will be carried on all appliances connected the gas supply. As you mentioned you would need to show it is discounted (capped) for the gas engineer not to include it in the certificate. Please note, this will be noted in the certificate and so can not be reconnected later without another check.

Simply ask the Gas Safe engineer who is carrying out the inspection to cap-off and make safe the redundant fire this obviously will incur additional costs rather then employ another engineer to undertake this work prior!
