Boiler dropping pressure when not in use

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi. My boiler is dropping pressure when not in use (1.5 bar down to zero overnight) I put the heating on this morning and the pressure has stopped up The waste condensate pipe outside leads to the main waste pipes and is dripping at a joint, it drips more when water is being used ie taps and washing machine. Would this affect the water pressure? I had my central heating system power flushed a couple months ago and pressure dropped a little before then but he put some sealant in the system and it seemed to be ok. The pressure first started dropped after I bled ALL the radiators including the kitchen (nearest one to boiler) which hasn’t been done for some time as had a cover over it. When I bled this one there seemed to be loads of air trapped in Please help :)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, The water coming from the condensate is normal. you will have more come out the more the boiler is in use so it makes sense that more is visible when the hot water is being used. Boilers losing pressure like that usually indicate a leak.

As above condensate will run more when boiler in use as for leak on a joint this will need replacing as condense is slightly acidic and depending on where it is leaking it could cause damage. As for losing pressure it's almost certainly a water leak somewhere, the other thing it could be though is the expansion vessel faulty and the safety valve dripping from the central heating boiler or system ..
