Fire alarm and emergency lighting

Hi I need a Fire detection/alarm system for a common entrance / staircase serving first and second floor flats. Grade D system - mains powered smoke alarms at ground floor entrance, first floor landing, and second floor landing. All wirelessly linked. Mains powered heat detectors inside door of first and second floor flats, linked to smoke alarms in common staircase. All detectors with integral battery. Mains powered, battery backed Emergency lighting system in common corridor / staircase. All powered from lighting circuit. Is there a wide range of products available ? Presumably all products sold in the UK have to meet certain standards? Many thanks

Hi, Presumably the requirement here has been driven by the Fire Risk Assessment or a local authority spec. If you speak to your local electrical wholesaler, they will stock the type of products you are looking for. Often, they will have the local rep for alarm manufacturers, like Aico, who are very helpful at designing the system based on their products. Most importantly, the design, installation and testing will be someone who can certify that it's compliant with BS5839 (and BS7671 where appropriate). A BAFE accredited installer is also your friend here. Regards, Howard

Scope of the question seems disproportionate to any valid replies expected from a public forum. With the real focus of this upgrade being the safety of the residents rather than simply ticking off landlord requirements I would seek advice from a local professional installer. I would advise any such system however be wired on a dedicated circuit rather than spurring off existing lights.
