Raising fireplace hearth to make flush with wooden floor

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

I’m having a new wooden floor fitted (on existing pine floor) which will result in not being flush with the fireplace hearth (the hearth will end up being lower) I want the floor to be flush and it has been suggested to remove and re-install the fireplace and raise the hearth in order to do this. However, my neighbours (adjoining house) are concerned any works might affect the property and might comprimise the structural integrity and potentially cause damage. It’s an Edwardian property. And we know until we start the works re any damage. Bearing in mind we wouldn’t be doing any works to the chimney breast or the lintel Does anyone have any advice please? Thanks

What is the hearth made from? Marble, stone, tile, concrete? Do you love the current look of it? If not, one option would be to find some nice tiles and tile on top of the hearth bringing it up to the floor height.
