New fuse box - is the wiring new too?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM
I have put an offer on an old 1970s house, however it seems to be in good condition. The fuse box looks new and is the white box/ new fuse type. Does this mean the whole house will have been rewired as well so I don't need to worry about that, or could it just be that the fuse box was replaced on its own?

Ask to see the Electrical Installation Certificate when it was installed. If one is not available then an EICR needs to be carried out.

A new consumer unit is not an indication that any rewiring has been carried out.

I would ask your solicitor/vendor for the installation certificate and PartP for the new consumer unit, as when this is replaced the electrician has to test the installation for safety, if this is not available then ask for an EICR to be carried out which is a full report of the electrical installation
