Internal damaged window

My internal window sills/Board are damaged, what is the best option to repair them and within what trade should i get person to carry out the work? can it be skimmed? Is there any otherproduct apart from the upvc that one can use? I also want to change my door lining (i guess thats what its called) is this a straight forward process? is it going to damaged the walls? thanks in advance
