What can casue a verticle wet patch next to fireplace ?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

After periods of heavy rain a vertical damp patch appears through the plasterboard to the side of my fireplace causing the paintwork to flake. During dry periods the mark dries out. Could this be a chimney issue? I do have a damp issue in my property but not in this section of wall.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
