Windows & Door fitting

uPVC Door with side panels

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hi, We just had a uPVC door fitted with 2 side panels (half glazed). Side panels are wobbly and shake when you are closing the door very gently. I am worried that the glass can break when the door slam. Could you advise if this is normal on uPVC doors that side panels are wobbly or it's not fitted right? Overall size is width 195cm height 203cm and door in the middle Many thanks

there will be a bit of movement but it should be minimal down both sides of the door styles should be reinforced with metal inside the upvc frame if you look down the inside door of the frame or remove a glazing bead you should see small screws about 350mm -450mm apart which gives the frame strength ! Some scrupulous manufactures dont fit it in their frames and sell doors cheaper ? so make sure when you buy a door it has been reinforced The glass wont break if it is toughened glass look for the kite mark in the corners

It seems to us based on your description that this door has not been properly reinforced. I would suggest you call in your supplier under the terms of your guarantee.

Sounds like no coupling bar was used to connect and reinforce the door to the sidelights. id have them back to make sure they have been used.
