LVT on uneven concrete

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi, I recently had to have the concrete floor in my kitchen/dining room dug out and replaced, when the concrete dried it was uneven (even after the self level went on) so the builder said he's fix it, he put another thin layer of screed on top then put the kitchen back in. It is still not totally level as you can see the direction that he brushed it on and there are lumps and bumps all over. I have bought LVT vinyl tiles (with underlay) to go on top but have been advised by the supplier that they need a totally flat surface (my builder said that since they are flexible they will cover any issues...). Will the LVT be damaged if it goes on the uneven surface and is there anything I can do about the surface to stop this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :-)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I’ve recently looked at having lvt, had 2 company’s tell me that the floor would need to be levelled first before they lay, unless we where going for the click type with underlay then we wouldn’t need to do anything to the floor, hope this helps.

Your sub-floor must be dry, level and sound you will also absolutely need a surface dpm as the residual building moisture will be there for a long time (roughly 1mm per day) your floor is nowhere near dry, also the new concrete base was required to have the laitence ground off I hope that has been done prior to the bad screed otherwise it's a full uplift to the bare concrete, get in a flooring professional to prep the floor prior to installing the lvt and do the fitting. Once screeded it should be like glass otherwise any imperfections will shadow through and lose any warranties, the whole of the above covers ANY flooring bar ceramic tile which is a little different.
