Kitchen Fitting

What to apply to wooden worktops.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi there I need to reseal wooden kitchen worktops and was unsure what’s best to use.I will be sanding back the wood.I read on another site somewhere that there’s a varnish or something that you apply to wood, then rub it down with wire wool, which gives it semi Matt finish which looks good but will also last 2-3 years. But I cannot remember where I saw it or what it was called.I would be very grateful if anyone knows what it is they could tell me.or just give me there thoughts on what's the best thing to use.many thanks s.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Tung oil is a good finish for wooden kitchen worktops. It’s actually made from the tung tree nut so it’s a plant based oil so good for food surfaces, unless of course you have a nut allergy in which case you’d be better using danish oil but check the ingrediants because some manufacturers put tung oil in the danish oil... both oils form a water resistant satin finish on wood but will need recoating every 2-3 years depending on how much the worktop is used...

I prefer Osmo worktop oil. Gives a very nice finish.
