Bathroom Fitting

How to choose a bathroom extractor fan to fit to size and use

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

My bathroom is in a terrace house with two cold walls and very, very heavyly used, hence frequent and morning showers with not efficient ventulation. I am not sure if Silent tornado ST100 HT at 4 inch is sufficient, or is inline fan a better option on balance of noise and long-term maintenance?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A 100mm fan is normally ok, I would get one that permanently trickles, and with timer on boost. I would advise getting a good make ( your choice and it must be wired via a 3 core and earth and a fan isolation switch.

There 3 main types of bathroom extractor fan to choose from; Axial, centrifugal and inline. - Axial fans are generally the least powerful but are fine for most situations, they shouldn't be ducted more than 2-3m and can be installed on a wall with direct access to the outside. - Centrifugal are more powerful than axial fans, so are also good for bigger bathrooms and noisier. - inline fans are another option, they are installed in the loft or ceiling void and are great for ducting long distances, often up to 50m. You can also choose mains or low voltage but the low voltage fans are required for installation in zone 1 or 2 of a bathroom.
