First spindle on new stairs touching newel. This can't be right?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

I am having a loft conversion done and the stairs have just been put in. See the picture. The first spindle on the stairs has been put in, touching the newel. This doesn't look right to me - what do you think? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No it's not right, when the builder worked out the spacings he got it wrong. There should be equal gaps between each spindle and between the end spindles and newel posts.

I agree with Hugh, that's just not right, should be evenly spaced all the way. Basic mistake.

Yep, unfortunatley that’s a mistake made by someone who cannot do basic maths. Like the original answer it should be a gap inbetween every spindle and newel.
