Damp Proofing

Which trademan should i listen to and when can i git my kitchen?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

We recently had the damp treated in the kitchen. The Damp guy assured me that moister boards ( blueside facing the bricks ) should be dot and dabbed onto the walls then skimmed, as long as they didnt bridge over the damp course everything would be fine. However, the plasterer insisted the damp guy was wrong and put the blue side of the moisterboards facing the room before skimming them. He also wanted to board right to the bottom and bridge over the damp course so the joiner had something to attatch his skirting too. I had to tell him 3 times not to which he didnt seem happy about. However, against my will he put the plasterboards on the opposite why around to which the damp guy said but he didnt bridge over the damp course. We have left the plaster 6 days to dry but the walls are still wet where the dot and dab as been used and particularly where the damp was. The kitchen fitter wants to start tomorrow 😣 Firstly which way should the boreds go? Secondly, Should I wait for the walls to dry completely before the kitchen is fitted and if so why? I have spent alot of money on the kitchen and im worried the damp problem has not been solved properly and will ruin my new kitchen. Im also concerned that if its fitted to soon i will get mould on my new units and the wood my soak up the moister from the walls. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi, There should have been a salt neutraliser applied to the brickwork and left for 24hrs before any work was started. A conventional dot n dab adhesive is not recommended for areas that suffer with damp problems as this can transfer moisture through to the board. There are special non-permeable adhesive made for this process that should be used. The board bridging the DPC is fine as long there is at least a 12mm gap at the bottom of the board and the floor Mike.
