water draining from sink causes debris to come up plug hole in bath

When we empty the sink in the bathroom, the water and debris washes up out of the plughole in the bath which is next to the sink and there is an unpleasant smell. We have tried a plunger and a drain unblocker from the supermarket but it is still happening. It only happens when you empty a sink full of water all at once. If you just run the taps in the sink it drains fine. Do I need to call a plumber out or maybe try a stronger substance first?

Hi Sue, Your basin waste pipe and bath waste pipe merge into one from your explanation. Supermarket drain cleaners never work in my experience and may cause damage to existing waste pipes. Plumbing merchants or a Plumber is the best way forward. I hope this helps.
