Plug Socket to Cooker Connection Point.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

Is it possible to remove a standard plug socket, and replace it with a cooker connection point ( to attach 6amp cable to ? ) My daughter's home only has 2 options to fit her cooker, a plug socket ( oven is to highly rated for a 13amp fuse, it needs hardwiring ) and a gas point. The plug socket does work off the ( I don't know the right words.. apologies ) main socket with red switch, waist height, ( the plug socket I'm wishing to change is ankle height, behind the cooker ) In short. Would it be possible to remove the plug socket, and refit a cooker connection point into the gap created ?

I would recommend getting an electrician in who can actually look at it and assess

No. It depends of the load of the cooker. They need a separate circuit, a 32 amps MCB, 6 / 2.5 cable is appropriate for a cooker less than 15kW. Protected by an RCD. Also, needs to be fitted at an accessible position.

It does sound like a possible option as long as you have a separate cooker feed? So yes, changing the switches socket to a cooker outlet would allow you to draw more power but you need to make sure that the cable installed is sufficient to the Mcb on that circuit! I’d also recommend getting an electrician to look as it will be a quick fix if it can be done this way.

I would highly recommend to get a registred electrician to have look and make the right decision for you.
