Can a double socket replace a single socket?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

Hi, I have a single socket on a single spur from a fused switch, can a double socket replace the single socket on this 'fused-single-spur' (socket1:dishwasher, socket2: washer dryer) ? Thanks, Glen.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes it can as long as you only have one double socket fed from the spur. You have a large electrical load in the two items your plugging in and could start blowing fuses or worse if you use them both at once so i would recommend either having the ringmain extended to there or a dedicated circuit.

I really wouldn’t plug a dishwasher & a tumble dryer into a twin socket. A twin socket is only rated at 20 amps, not 26 amps ( 2 x 13 amp). Even more of an issue if on a spur rated at 13 amp! I would look to rectify this via an electrician.

No. A fuse connection unit bs 1363-4 have a fuse of maximum 13 amps. As your dishwasher and washing machine combined are a total 5kW (19 amps total) Will blow up your fuse o cause fire if they are used at the same time.
