light bulb blew - didn't trip a switch on consumer unit. Put new bulb in - but not working

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

Hi, we had house fully re-wired two years ago following a house fire. A lightbulb has blown immediately as we switched it on. None of the switches on the consumer unit has tripped. All of the other lights are still working, following that one blowing. I put a new bulb in - but no response. So I tried another bulb, incase first replacement was faulty - but again no response. I thought the consumer unit was meant to trip, as a safety measure. Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

It will only trip on overload or earth fault conditions. Sounds like you have a fault either at the switch or the fitting/ lampholder which has now blown clear. I would get an electrician in to fault find and correct.
