Bathroom Fitting

Can I mix tiles and wet wall?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

I’m moving into a property with a brand new bathroom but the bath area only has tiles halfway up the wall. I want to fit a shower and rather than wasting the tiles that are already on place, I was wondering whether it’s possible to put wet wall on the top half of the walls around the bath? I.e can you have half tiles and half wet wall? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as the wet wall is sealed around it’s edges it can certainly be fitted from a functional point of view. I would just consider the aesthetics of mixing tiles and wet wall.

Difficult question to answer but as a tiler I would not attempt this myself due to not knowing what the tiles have been adhered to? Is there cement board backing as a minimum? What is tile weight? Will the backing support this weight? What adhesive and grout was used to fix the tiles? So many variables that it’s not likely to end well? In my opinion it’s better to strip out and start again it could be far less costly that taking a gamble? Hope this helps
