Is my toilet cister likly to evetually leak?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
I have a toilet cistern made of the traditional pottery. It has the pottery lid that you can lift up. Unfortunately there is flaking inside at the bottom of the cistern. Have you come across this and what causes it? Is it likely that it will eventually leak? Is it wise to replace the toilet sooner rather than later? Thanks

Hi
I changed a syphon in a pottery / clay made cistern. I found that the flaking at the bottom was due to the glaze peeling off due to age.
The chances are, if it leaks, it'll be due to the syphon or fill valve.
Depending on the quality of the clay cistern, you can actually get it treated.
