Doing groundwork ahead of build
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
We are planning an extension to the rear of our house but we are having problems getting builders who are available this year. To try and get a head start I was thinking of getting the groundworks/Foundations sorted this year with a view to get to the actual build part done next year. We need to move our man hole and install some additional drainage so thought it would make the build part easier. Would anyone recommend against this approach? Is it likely to cause any problems that I am not aware of? Thanks Karla

If you are intending to instruct a groundworks contractor only at this stage that shouldn't be a problem, just ensure they work to the correct levels and also you have building control instructed to check the works. Likewise for the drainage, also if you are building over or moving manholes you may need a build over agreement in place with the local authority. Hope that helps.
