Cant find stop cock

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hi need to turn water off, but can't find stop cock anywhere! - asked neighbour were there's was and it's not in the same place for us, had a look behind kitchen sink and outside but can't find it! - suggestions please! - can we get a new one fitted? Checked outside - there are 2 one outside door & one in garden saying stopcock but both are about 2 foot down and full of dirt!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will have to get your hands dirty and dig down to expose the external stop cock. You will need a key. Let's hope once you uncover it that it's not seized! Key link example: https://www.diy.com/departments/b-q-steel-combination-stop-cock-key/190546_BQ.prd You may need to contact a plumber to locate the internal one for future reference, if it's there he/she will find it

Have a look on the front of your house and you may find a black circular cover on the floor saying water , if so find a flathead screwdriver open it up and if it’s a fairly new (within 10 years or so) you can just reach in the and switch the water off

some old stopcocks dont need a key and deep within the mudd you will come across a handle that pulls up to stut off and to turn back on you push it back down..
