Metal garage roof insulation

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

I have a metal profile sheet garage roof with a 15 degree slope. In winter a lot of condensation forms on the underneath and drips onto the floor. What type of insulation can I fit between the exposed joists to reduce the condensation. It has plenty of airflow with 4 airbricks at roof height.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Jeff It would be best to fit foil backed insulation between the exposed rafters. Put as thick as possible but make sure you leave an air gap above the foil so it does not touch the metal sheets. The gap needs to have an airflow & it would help if you taped the joints of the insulation.

Hello Jeff, I would recommend fitting insulation either between and under the rafters or just under the rafters, taping the joins if you have insulation continuously underneath the rafters would also give you a vapour barrier. However insulation underneath the rafters reduces internal space. The more expensive option would be to take the existing metal roof off, insulate over the rafters and install a membrane such as single ply or felt.
