Bathroom Fitting

PVA, SBR or tanking kit for shower

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

I have installed the plasterboard in the bathroom and would like to make it waterproof. Should I use SBR, waterproof PVA or a tanking kit

As mentioned, should be cement board like Hardie or No More Ply. However, never use PVA before tiling. Prime with SBR.

PVA dissolves in water (Water-soluble) . Should not be used to waterproof anything. Not my personal opinion, its science and fact! Shocks me how many people advise on putting PVA on before tiling. Use a primer/waterproof suitable for the wall type, I personally would avoid using PVA.

Would be best to use aqua board , but if the walls are now in place use PVA and leave to dry, make sure to use the correct tile adhesive for shower areas and a shower resistant mold resistant grout.

Both above answers are correct, always try to use a moisture resistant board i.e plasterboard but if this isnt possible now then use SBR not PVA before tiling and make sure to use the correct adhesive for a shower enclosure
