Finishing door after plasterboard has been fitted to surround it

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

Hello, we have just had plasterers in to plasterboard our ground floor and now around the door that leads into the house we have a visible distance between the plasterboard, brick wall and the door. What can we do to tidy the area up and make it good? Is it architrave that I need? And if so, what type would allow for a 2 inch gap? And if not, what is it? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I take it you mean the wall is now 2inch past the door frame if so you would need i 2x1 to fit on the frame to build it out then put your architrave on to finish

I personally think you need to get the plasterers back to make that good as to me it sounds very poor workmanship to leave a gap that large as there sounds like there is nothing to fix the architrave too.

Hi there, I think I understand your predicament am I right in saying the plasterboard has not been brought up to the door frame so you can still see brick work? If that is the case the plasters need to come back and either put a 2” piece of plaster board up and skim over the top or fill it and then skim over the top. The plaster should be flush with the door frame. Then the architrave 2x1” gets nailed to the door frame. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!
