Decking joist gap

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

Hi I have built a deck frame with 70x45mm joists, I have the the joist gaps 400mm apart, not 400mm centre, I did this so it was easier to cut all the noggins at 400mm, would this be okay ? The decking area is 8.5mx3.1m and the deck boards are l4.2mx w90mm x depth 22mm.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you should be fine with 400mm noggings an when coming to laying the decking board leave a 5-6 mm gap in between each board hope this helps you

I disagree, 3x2 is not strong enough for the m2 that your talking about, even with 4x2 you would have to have 4 legs on each joist, otherwise it would be like a trampoline! But I hope it’s treated 3x2 not soft wood
