Bathroom Fitting

unhappy with finishes in the newly completed bathroom

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hi all, Please,I need your advice. I've just had my bathroom completed by a professional company/trader. 1)They fitted a sink with chipped glazing - minor defects- placed centrally, in the direct view. I raised the concern and took pictures. I found it normal, if the sink was defective, to not have been fitted like this. 2) The tile fitting aside of a door is irregular, because the tiles are cut at different sizes. 3) They fitted an improvised window sill, shabby, not water resistant, rough, with 2 screw holes - probably what me and my partner could do ourselves from different things we might find in garage. 4) The grout around the door was shabby, all over the place. I asked to have it finished neatly. What did they do today? They put silicone on top, which is a botched job, would make it more difficult to remediate, looks awful and undermined any trust in their skills and their honesty. They'd like the last third on the payment on Monday. Again, please advise me what to do. My confidence in these people is low. I don't expect this conduct from skilled traders. Something similar happened to one of my friend. They refused to pay the rest of the sum and used the money to employ other traders to rectify the job of the first team. Thank you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Id say if you are unhappy, I would never do this to my clients and if one of my guys did ever, I would go to the ends of the earth to get it sorted. You have the law on your side. Anything damaged should be replaced or fixed to new state. Tiles without me seeing them might be because of the wall or what is in the way. But id say should be all the same most of the way, Id say this is bad planning or tiler doesnt know what he/she is doing. Window sill replace. Sounds like tiler is not a tiler. Doesnt sound like you have had a good time and im sorry but there is always bad one out there. If you not too far maybe I can help, im in Buntingford, Hertfordshire.

withold payment if the finish is not up to your required standard. all newly installed products should be damage free and if they cant even get the tiling right thats a big worry, especially if they come back and fill with silicone ;0
