Loft Conversion

Can I be charged extra to connect electricity, at the end of the job - approval doc P

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I have nearly had a loft conversion completed. All the wiring is in place ready to connect to the fuse board. However I am now being asked for more money as the wires cannot be connected to the existing fuse board and a new fuse board is needed. Given they looked at the fuse board several times before the build then surely they should have realised the wires wouldn't fit, before the job commenced? It should not come as an unexpected surprise at the end of the job, that the wiring will not fit into the existing fuse board? I didn't understand what my loft firm meant but they said it was to ensure it complys with document p. Can they suddenly Spring this cost on me or should I push back and say it's their mistake and they need to fix it? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If they had done a survey before the job started they should have realised all this. They don’t seem to know much about electrical design.

Hi, If your existing fuse board does not comply with bs7671 it will need to be upgraded, unfortunately that cost would be down to you, I would ask the company for a discount but if they did not include that work in their quoted price you would need to pay the cost. Hope this helps Craig
