Flat roof leaking badly and I need to know what next to do

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.17 PM

I had a conservatory converted to an ensuite in January 2017. I was given a 5 year guarantee but was not put in writing. The flat roof started leaking straight away but I didn't realise this. It was pointed out to me by a handyman I hired to do a job in September 2017. I have been calling the building company since and they don't want to pick up. I used another number and called and they picked. I explained everything to them and they told me to send pictures to them. I have done this and have not received any response from them. I am wondering what line of action to take next as the roof is now leaking badly and I am in the middle of a regularisation process with my council.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

First off you will need to fix the leak to stop any further damage. You need to get someone in to asses the roof and make watertight and then you can make a decision about what you want to do. It may be that they have not flashed up the wall enough or fitted adequate lead flashing or even stuck the felt down correctly but until there is an inspection you will not know what to do. As for the legal ramifications for the company that has done the roof if you have done all you have to contact them then you could possible gone through the small claims courts as well as informing the trading standards. You can also leave bad reviews on any page they have if that's possible. The 5 years guarantee is for the work itself The mineral should also come with a guarantee as long as as the work is done right. But from what your saying your still within the 5 years. Hope this helps Gavin Trelfa
