arge gap between lintel and the top of the frame on french doors?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.16 PM
I am in a new-build property and we have noticed that there is a large gap between the top of the frame of our french doors and the steel lintel. The lintel edge is completely exposed and I'm unsure if this is correct too! the gap is filled with very untidy silicone to make it watertight. I am concerned that over time, the exposed scruffy concrete between the engineering bricks and the steel lintel will crumble and the bricks will in turn come loose. Surely, if nothing more than for aesthetic purposes, this gap should be covered?

Hard to say without pictures but I would say it needs filling in properly then maybe beading to cover the hole.

The lintel should be sitting snuggly on top of the French doors, who ever measured them, didn't make them tall enough, when fitting doors or indeed windows, I take items up tight and cement underneath
