Necessary to change existing consumer unit for a metal one if new cooker circuit added?

Existing consumer unit with rcd & mcbs etc installed c.10 yrs ago. I am told if I want a new cooker circuit installed new regs mean must replace old unit w. Metal one. Correct? Thanks.

If the board has space for the new circuit to be installed and has RCD protection like you say it has, then no you will not need to have a new metal consumer unit.
If there is no space for the new circuit then yes you will be looking at having a new consumer unit to allow it to be installed.

Instead of changing the entire board you may want to have a sub unit installed so at least the cooker circuit is up to new regulations. This way would save you money and meet the electricians requirements.
