Cracked Stone Window Ledge

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hello I have a stone window ledge and it has a horizontal crack right along it. 1mm in some places growing to around 5mm in some places. I have heard and read a mix of different repair methods and I am getting a little overwhelmed! Some say to put diluted PVA in the crack, fill with silicone filler and paint over. Some say to fill with stabiliser first. Some say to mix cement with the PVA and fill, then paint PVA over the top. I intend to paint once repaired. Can someone give me some guidance/instructions? Thank you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Stitch the crack by drilling a hole diagonally through the crack twice going through either side …. place stainless steel dowel/mesh into the hole alongside a stone adhesive or glue. Following this point the crack with a cement or preferably a lime mix as cement is not ideal to use on stone as it perishes it and then paint over.
