Neighbours can hear our taps making a noise

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

Hi, my neighbours have recently complained about our taps being noisy. They live in the flat directly below me. My bathroom is above their bedroom. When I turn on my bathroom taps they said they can hear a grinding noise and then when I turn it off it shudders to a stop. I can't hear anything like that in my flat. What could this be? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated..

It could be water hammer. Lots of properties now have water meters fitted, they have a built in non return valve to stop back contamination of the mains water. It could be that if your pipes aren't secure the as you turn off the tap the non return valves means the water has nowhere to go which causes the noise. You can fit a mini expansion vessel on the cold main to combat this
