Large cracks in the middle of the wall
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.16 PM
Good day, I am looking to buy a house built in the 1960s where no major renovations were done since it was built. One of the rooms has quite prominent cracks in the front facing interior wall starting from where the wall meets the ceiling. And there is literally a tear in one of the cracks reaching the middle of the wall. It looks like a hole. The exterior wall looks ok. Is there a way to understand whether these cracks can be repaired through filling/plastering or is it something to worry about? Thank you.

Hi
If its a very large crack and the gap is more than a couple of millimetres apart then it sounds like its structural which you would need expert advice to remedy the cause of this but if its only a slight gap in the crack then you can hack off plaster either side of the crack and wire mesh with expanded metal lath covering the crack in the backing wall. But without looking at it i cant be sure 100% ok.
