Support for wall knockthrough

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

I've had a builder explain how he would support the loads above a wall that I want removing. He advised he would support the floor above using props and board parallel to wall being removed on both sides. I have seen this method of support but also supports perpendicular to the wall. When the support pieces goes through gaps created in the wall to be removed. Are their specific times when method is used over another or does is depend where the beam is being installed?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Removing a load bearing wall and the type of props you use depends on which way the floor joists are running, the advice mentioned above is the correct procedure if the joists are sitting on the load bearing wall to be taken out, if that isn't the case then needles of strong boys should be used on the acro's. Also to bear in mind you will need a building notice which can easily be obtained from building control for a small fee, a building control officer will come and inspect the first part of the works and check rsj in place ( before it is boarded and skimmed ) then they will make a second visit to sign work off.
