There is a lot of rules and restrictions surrounding permitting development, it is always a good idea to seek professional advice as there can also be local restrictions on permitted development.
general rules;
the maximum size of an outbuilding is 30m2
All additional extension outside of the original footprint of the house and outbuildings can not take up more than 50% of the total area of the land (i.e 50% of the land must remain undeveloped)
maximum ridge height of 4m for a pitched roof or 3m for any other kind of roof.
The eaves height must be no more than 2.5 metres.
If the outbuilding is closer to the boundary than 2m it shall be no higher than 2.5m.
If your development meets the criteria under permitted development it is a good idea to apply for a certificate of lawfulness from your local council before commencing as this will highlight any potential problems.
