Roofing

Subsequent leak following roof repair.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I hired a roofing company to remedy very poor work carried out by a roofer. They checked roof over and carried out repair and other maintenance jobs required to leave roof watertight and in good state of repair. All photographed, listed and invoiced. Called them in on three further occasions over next few months re concerns about damp to be told all fine. Last visit hostile, intimidating and dismissive. I called in another roofer who spotted leak from cracked cement they installed fixing valleys and other reasons for continuing problems such as poor water diversion, etc. Both from work carried out and omission of work required. I am advised by CAB I must invite the contractor to return and repair but have no confidence in their ability to do so, far less wishing to revisit the hostility etc. The job doesnt justify cost of employing a surveyor, it was under £1000 but sorting this out will be expensive. Any advice most welcome.

Hi, your best bet is to contact a building surveyor. They will be able to assess the quality of the workmanship as well as any further works required. If the contractor has not completed works that they was contracted to do or carried out substandard workmanship then you will have grounds to pursue legal measures. Did the 'company' provide you with a contract or any written agreement in terms of scope of works prior to works commencing? Richard

In all honesty on my experience, I have never seen or heard of a roofing company giving guarantees on repair works in the domestic side of roofing. Are the issues coming from the same place as the repairs are meant to of been carried out? How old is the roof? I suggest getting a building surveyor to take a look. It maybe that you’re needing a new roof, instead of small repairs all over. Without seeing the roof myself I can’t give you an accurate answer on this. IN RESPONSE TO YOUR EDIT: You need to get a few visits from a handful of roofers and get some advice. I can’t tell you what to do without seeing the roof yourself. Repairs don’t get guarantees by almost every roofer I have met. More you pay on repairs, the more costly a new instalment will be. You need it sorted before your out of pocket and still a leaky roof. Try not to be jumping at the first roofer that comes to visit.
